Avoid heart disease
It is quite another to attempt such changes in a fairly ordinary middle-aged person without symptoms of disease. Why wait until AFTER you have the heart attack to make changes?
Heart disease is by far the #1 killer in the U. S., although 1/3 of those deaths could be prevented if people exercised more and followed better diets, the American Heart Association said in an annual report.
Cardiovascular disease kills more Americans than the next 7 causes of death combined - including cancer - the AHA report states. Overall, slightly more females than males have cardiovascular disease. Heart disease accounted for 40% of all deaths in the U. S. in 1999.(1)
Wouldn't it be interesting if almost 1/2 of all deaths (those from heart disease) could be delayed, in good health, to a later time in life - then from some other cause?
The truth is that 150 years ago, heart disease was completely unheard of. Almost no one died from heart disease 150 years ago. The truth is that heart disease is a new disease. Even though the average length of life 150 years ago was much less than it is now, there were millions of people who did live past 60 years of age. They lived long enough to get heart disease - but they didn't get it. None of those people died of heart disease even when they lived to be in their 70s.
Perhaps the greatest evil connected with the problem of heart disease is that certain powerful drug interests deliberately suppress the truth - these are the groups which stand to benefit the most from your illness from heart disease. There is nothing as profitable to a drug company as a patient who is forced to take some drug for the rest of his life - heart medications fit in that category.
These drug interests have manipulated medical education so that even your doctor is completely ignorant of the value of other therapies. Your doctor is almost as much a victim as his patients.
There is an explanation for the terrible mis-information you get from doctors. The drug interests are eager for his prescription business. That explanation starts with the education your doctor has received. That education got corrupted many years ago. Less than 2% of a Harvard Medical School student's time is spent studying preventive medicine, and only a small part of that time is spent on nutrition.
Intravenous chelation therapy, probably the most effective medical treatment for heart problems, is still called a fraud by the orthodox medical establishment.
Bypass surgery for heart disease
You may have been told, and you may believe that...
"bypass surgery or drugs are your only answers, and that they are effective."
That is not true.
It takes a great leap of faith to let someone crack open your chest and put you on a heart-lung machine while they attempt to correct blockages in your coronary arteries. It is actually quite an amazing piece of surgery, but in the vast majority of cases it is a classic example of traditional medicine doing too much, too late and not treating the CAUSE of the problem.
Part of the reason that bypass patients suffer from a mental decline - this change in intellectual abilities which occurs after bypass, which studies(2) have shown can affect 50% to 80% of people who have the surgery - is that the surgeon only repairs about 2 inches of their blood vessels. They do virtually nothing to address the cause of the hardening of the arteries.
The truth is that coronary bypass surgery consumes more of our medical dollar than any other treatment or procedure. Although it is performed less frequently than the most common abdominal and gynecological operations, bypass surgery is the leader in terms of equipment and personnel, hospital space, and total associated revenues, and thousands of doctors have gotten rich from doing them. It is not unusual for heart bypass surgery to cost $25,000, or even $50,000. They often come 'undone' within months or a few years. They are often repeated on the same patient.
A decade of scientific study has shown that except in certain well-defined situations, bypass surgery does not save lives: among patients who suffer from coronary-artery disease, those who are treated without surgery enjoy the same survival rates as those who undergo open-heart surgery. Yet many American physicians continue to prescribe surgery immediately upon the appearance of angina, or chest pain.
"These invasive procedures could be eliminated with no effect on mortality in at least 25% of cases," says Dr. Mark McClellan of Harvard Medical School, who led the study of Medicare records of more than 200,000 heart-attack patients 65 and older.
Heart drugs: the solution to heart disease?
However, the good news for the Medical Establishment is that something is taking the place of bypass surgery - and it is an even bigger fraud: Heart Drugs
Cholesterol drugs WILL reduce cholesterol by some amount. But, what they wonít do is to prolong your life! The drugs you are going to be pushed into taking DO NOT prolong your life, but they do greatly increase the profits of the drug companies. You may even live as long as the people who donít take the drugs - if you're lucky. This would happen when the drugs donít cause bad 'side effects'. Those side effects have a way of leaking out some years after a new drug is introduced - just in time to scare people off the old drug onto the new one.
You have been taught that you should be able to control high cholesterol, high blood pressure and all the causes of heart disease with the proper diet. You have tried and failed to change your diet. There are many millions of Americans in this condition.
So, reluctantly, you give up on the 'natural way' and accept your doctors recommendation for pills. You start on the drugged route to health. Unfortunately, there isnt any way you can get there on that road.
After you have failed on your diet, and have found exercise too tiring, you are ready to accept the drug.
You go to your doctor, frightened to death about your high cholesterol, ready to admit that you like ice cream and pie too much to cut back. You complain a bit that you have been dieting, but the doctor looks you right in the eye, with the cholesterol test in his hand, and tells you that you have not tried enough. Your cholesterol is still too high.
Your doctor tells you that you are at risk to die from a heart attack SOON unless you get on Mevacor!
You feel guilty about not eating right. You are not in a mood to object to a drug. You ARE ready now, to pay $150 per month for a drug when you would think $100 per month for vitamins is insane! Drug companies use their enormous profits to 'educate' doctors, while vitamin companies have no such margins to educate you.
Do these drugs prolong your life? There is no evidence that they do. Do they improve the quality of your life? There is plenty of evidence that they do not. There is even evidence that they shorten life. A study done in Finland and reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association, 266 no. 9 (Sep. 1991):1225-1229, showed that deaths from heart attacks and strokes were 46% higher in those taking cholesterol-lowering drugs. The author of this study was Dr. T. E. Strandberg. (3)
Certain lipid-lowering drugs, such as the 'statins' - lovastatin, simvastatin, pravastatin - and gemfibrozil as well as oral agents which lower blood sugar, such as tolazamide and glyburide, cause a decrease in serum levels of coenzyme Q10 (4,5). These drugs inhibit the production of coenzyme Q10 by the liver and will cause serious complications unless one supplements coenzyme Q10 back into the diet. A prescription for lipid-lowering statin drugs should always be accompanied with a recommendation to take coenzyme Q10, because if a person is deficient in coenzyme Q10, heart failure is more likely.
Let's look at the cause of heart disease
Free radicals - One very common source of free radicals is the margarine which your doctor is telling you is so much better for you than butter. The process of manufacture of margarine involves heating oils to very high temperatures. That high temperature unfortunately guarantees that the oils will be converted into free radical forms. Margarine is made from hydrogenated fats. It is one of the worst foods you can eat.
Margarine manufacturers were largely successful at driving a natural and healthy food product, butter, off the market. It is because of their powerful marketing and propaganda that a lot of people today believe margarine is healthier than butter. More on how public relations firms shape and manipulate the public's beliefs on the "Why you believe what you believe" page.
If you will take some time to study the page on free radicals well, and understand what a free radical is, you will know more than thousands of doctors who have never ever studied free radicals in medical school, and who havenít the foggiest idea of what they are.
Free radicals are the most likely source of all heart disease and cancer - and probably most other forms of disease not caused by a bacteria or virus.
30 years ago your parents would use the phrase 'calcification of the arteries' or 'hardening of the arteries' to describe heart disease.
It is part of the terrible campaign to convince you of the lies about cholesterol that the part which calcium plays in heart disease has been deliberately suppressed. You dont hear that term any more - 'calcification'.
The triggering event for heart disease is the build-up of calcium inside the individual cells of the artery, causing that area to become rigid - not flexible.
Cholesterol: If you also understand that the great bulk of cholesterol in the body was manufactured BY the body, not taken into the body as part of the diet, you will have a more accurate understanding of this stuff.
heard the claims over and over again. The average American diet
But, it is a false claim that this large quantity of fat you are eating is bad for you because of the cholesterol in it. And, it is a doubly false claim that the cholesterol in your diet then causes heart disease.
There are groups of people on the planet whose diet is extremely high in fat - the Eskimos for instance. It is not the fat, but the sugar and processed foods that cause the degenerative diseases in modern mankind.
Until their diets became influenced by Coke and French Fries, the Eskimos ate a daily diet which included large quantities of blubber - a very saturated fat, very high in cholesterol. Heart disease was completely unknown among the Eskimos until they adopted Western ways with diet and life style.
Excess weight is a coronary risk factor for men and women because it leads to unfavorable changes in blood pressure, blood sugar and blood fats, all of which increase the risk of heart attack. Being overweight is a symptom of something which a real cause of heart disease. But you can get overweight eating a ton of sugar and carbohydrates. It is being overweight that is a problem, not the fat in the diet.
So if bypass surgery and heart drugs are not the solution to heart disease, what is the solution?
Intravenous chelation therapy is one solution.
